A visit to the V&A Dundee - Ocean Liners Speed & Style

6/10/2018

Comments

Last weekend I visited the new V&A Dundee to see the Ocean Liners Speed & Style exhibition.  The exhibition itself was absolutely wonderful, very cleverly put together, it was quite possible to spend at least a couple of hours looking through it all.  The way the items were presented, and the occasional addition of sound or video or special lighting all added up to a captivating experience.

As for the V&A building itself?  I'm sorry.  I didn't get it.  Appeared to have huge amount of wasted space, then huge spaces devoted to a café, shop and restaurant, and that doesn't leave much exhibit space, which is the point of the whole building... in that respect it reminded me of the Riverside Museum, Glasgow, which also doesn't appear to fulfil its main objective of being a good building to display things in.  This means that the small Scottish Design area is overcrowded, with long queues when I was there.

In short I'd highly recommend the current exhibition, and if a future exhibition interests you then do go, but  otherwise I'd maybe postpone your visit until it quietens down a bit (and they turn the restaurant into more exhibit space...).
