Interior shots of QE2 from her April 1987 post-refit Shakedown Cruise
My Cabin This is the TV in my 3-deck cabin. I think it had just been fitted during the refit. It had many channels, but this was the live view from the bridge over the bows. Personally I'd rather have had an observation bar at the front of the ship like the Queen Mary & Elizabeth had than make do with a TV image.
I hope they've changed the curtains since 1987!

The Corridor
This is the corridor outside our 3-deck cabin. It went on as far as you could see!

The Casino
I wasn't allowed in here at night because I was only 15 at the time but I had a look round during the day. It was much bigger than this photo makes it look!

The Grand Room
Newly fitted with a double staircase this room was fantastic. The shopping mall was around the top behind the railings and the roof was covered in tiny sparkling lights which looked fantastic at night. The carpet was dark blue with bright flashes in it that picked up the light from the spotlights. A large audio-visual control centre was above me where this photo was taken controlling all the entertainment in this room. The room stretches the whole width of the ship.
You can just make out my mum and dad waltzing in this photo behind the lady in white.

One of the most amazing nights of my life was in this room. Having strolled around the deck at twilight, we entered through the rotary doors to the shopping mall upstairs and leaned over the banister to watch the fantastic singer. Then the QE2 began to shake...what was wrong? Bits of coloured paper from the light fittings fell to the dance floor... We found out the next day that this had been the QE2's main speed trials and that she had "easily exceeded 35 knots".

Well, she had to buy something!
The Queens Room.
Our home on board together with our bags for the first few hours... This room had just received a make-over with some very comfy new square brown leather armchairs. We had an amazing buffet in here one night at 00:30.

Note the ladder - the ship still wasn't finished following her refit!
This is one of our waiters in the Mauretania Restaurant. The waiters were very friendly and for me they made the trip what it was. The food was amazing and the wine just kept flowing - not for me of course! The Mauretania restaurant had just been installed at a cost of 2 million pounds when.
No wonder we are smiling - we'd just eaten one of the best meals of our lives in one of the best restaurants in the world!
