QE2 in Dubai (QE2 Today)
After nearly 10 painful years, QE2 finally opened her doors to the public on April 18th 2018. These are my comments, and my views about the ship in 2018.
On the positive side
The ship is largely intact, especially compared to Dubai's original daft plans. Some areas are completely intact - such as the stairwells and some public rooms.
On the negative side :-
Removing the lifeboats that lined the boat deck was a really dreadful mistake. Its changed the entire look of the ship, and she now appears in a way she was never designed to. This is not how to preserve a historic ship.
The lighting inside is just terrible - LED lighting that cannot be dimmed has been used, so at night the ship is brightly lit when, as any luxury hotel will tell, the lights should be dimmed low for atmosphere.
They've removed too much of the personality, and she is now clinical-looking, brightly lit,
