NEW YORK, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The world's grandest luxury liner, Queen Mary 2 and her sister ship, the famous Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), will make a historic crossing of the Atlantic today, as they sail together from New York to Southampton, England. It's the first time in Cunard Line's 164-year-history of operating transatlantic liners that two of their ships have sailed in tandem. This will also mark the farewell transatlantic eastbound voyage from New York for QE2. Subsequently she will offer her famous world cruise as well as European voyages from Southampton.
Queen Mary 2 will depart from Pier 92 at 7:30 p.m. and QE2 will depart from Pier 90 at 7:45 p.m. Both ships will be positioned near the Statue of Liberty at 8:30 p.m. for a spectacular Grucci fireworks display sponsored by American Express and American Express Travel.
Queen Mary 2 is the largest (151,400 tons), longest (1,132 feet/345 meters), tallest (236 feet/72 meters), widest (135 feet/41 meters) and most expensive ($800 million) ocean liner ever built.
