Note: I wrote this page at the point when I sold "Charlie".
The reason I've left it here is to remind me that at the time,
everything was not as rosey as I now remember it to be!
I bought Charlie new in February 1998 and sold him in March 2000 when
I got completely fed up with him.
The amount of fun that it gives me is completely outweighed by the
frustration of a huge collection of small problems.
The car cost too much to buy and costs too much to run to put up with all
this.
At the time of writing, I am waiting for delivery of something that is fun AND
reliable - an MX-5.
Here's Why:-
- He has repeatedly had alarm and immobiliser problems which no-one can fix
and which means I cant go anywhere
- He has got a slightly crunching 2nd gear which will cost a small fortune
to fix and will only get worse.
- He leaks in at least 3 different places.
- His windscreen wipers are faulty and often won't stop!
- His headlamp levelling system has broken on one side.
- His oil consumption is too high.
- He is rusting under the headlights and presumably elsewhere too.
- His crap door locks repeatedly jam and lock me out unless I fill them with
oil
- I've had repeated problems with his electric fan and its thermostat.
- On delivery his wheel alignment was so bad that he wore out a set of tires
in 2000 miles.
- He was recalled to fix his brake pipe which was dangerous.
- His rear brakes repeatedly go wrong/seize up and are often dangerous
- His passenger's window is incredibly stiff
- His expensive front fog lights failed.
- A front wheel bearing started squealing at 20000 miles.
